Free Detroit - No Consent

FREE Detroit NO Consent is a citizens collective of activists principally living in Detroit, whom engage in the workings of the City of Detroit - from business practices to city government and politics.

Founded on April 4, 2012 (Anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr's assassination), the day Detroit City Council voted with a simple majority to a Consent Agreement with the State of Michigan.

We formed because we, the people, DO NOT CONSENT to the fascist rule of the State of Michigan removing our ability to elect officials whom are competent to run the city. We realize corruption exists and we are working to remove it from our city government.

Transparency for Detroit’s Government

The press has been manipulated into a tool of the ruling class. They appear where you want them and their stories are crafted to give just the information desired. We can not trust them to give the truth. When the press seeks public opinion the approach selected representative persons and use partial quotes from us to fabricate a story. This is NOT the voice of the people in our mainstream press, and the people must learn to craft, publicize, and trust our own people’s press.

The courts have had precedent setting cases recorded into them to steer judgement of the law in a way that excludes access by the working class and impoverished. The majority of we the people have limited access to justice for ourselves without paying a price to reach for it.

The people must demand those with an agenda ill-intended to the well-being of the people to reveal truth. Elected officials are taught how to deliver partial truth, so there is something left for “just us” (the elite controllers).

The movie ran through me
The glamour subdue me
The tabloid untie me
I’m empty please fill me
Mister anchor assure me
That Baghdad is burning
Your voice it is so soothing
That cunning mantra of killing
I need you my witness
To dress this up so bloodless
To numb me and purge me now
Of thoughts of blaming you
Yes the car is our wheelchair
My witness your coughing
Oily silence mocks the legless
Ones who travel now in coffins
On the corner
The jury’s sleepless
We found your weakness
And it’s right outside our door
Now testify

Now testify
It’s right outside our door
Now testify
Yes testify
It’s right outside our door

With precision you feed me
My witness I’m hungry
Your temple it calms me
So I can carry on
My slaving sweating the skin right off my bones
On a bed of fire I’m choking on the smoke that fills my home
The wrecking ball rushing
Witness your blushing
The pipeline is gushing
While here we lie in tombs
While on the corner
The jury’s sleepless
We found your weakness
And it’s right outside your door
Now testify
Yeah testify
It’s right outside our door
Now testify
Now testify
It’s right outside our door

Mass graves for the pump and the price is set
Mass graves for the pump and the price is set
Mass graves for the pump and the price is set
Mass graves for the pump and the price is set

Who controls the past now controls the future
Who controls the present now controls the past
Who controls the past now controls the future
Who controls the present now?

Now testify

It’s right outside our door
Now testify

Why Do We Fight For Detroit?

Detroit stands on the brink of an opportunity to create a new movement of power by and for the people.

We must redefine our value system. We have needs that need to be cared for. We have skills to fulfill those needs.

ZAPATA’S BLOOD
by RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE

Zapata’s blood
Wasn’t spilt in vain
So now the most poor wage war
To reclaim their name

Zapata’s blood

Wasn’t spilt in vain

So now the most poor wage war
To reclaim their terrain

On January 1st , 1994
The indigenous farmers of Southern Mexico
Declared war on an unjust
and illegitimate government

Out of the debt of the most wild, the most poor
Came a just arm struggle
for democracy, justice, and liberty
And it won’t stop until that 65 year old dictatorship,
the Partido Revolucionario Institucional
(Institutional Revolutionary Party) is buried in the
ground
and the people’s voice is heard once again

Yeah

So check it out:
On January 1st, of 94 they became known as
the Zapatista movement
And they have a saying, and I want you all to
sing along with me real quick.
It goes something like this
It goes everything for everyone…
and nothing for ourselves.
Everything for everyone, and nothing for ourselves.
Everything for everyone, and nothing for ourselves.
Everything for everyone, and nothing for ourselves.
Everything for everyone, and nothing for ourselves.
Everything for everyone, and nothing for ourselves.
Everything for everyone, and nothing for ourselves.
Everything for everyone, and nothing for ourselves…

Detroit We Are Not Broken!

We are strong in spirit, strong in voice, strong in love, and strong in compassion.

We endure and our weaknesses breed strength as we recognize that which must be shed to rise to be more.

Metamorphosis is upon us.

BORN OF A BROKEN MAN
by RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE

My fears hunt me down
Capturing my memories
The frontier of loss
They try to escape across the street where
Jesus stripped bare
And raped the spirit he was supposed to nurture
In the name of my
In the name of my

Born of a broken man, but not a broken man
Born of a broken man, never a broken man
Born of a broken man, but not a broken man
Born of a broken man, never a broken man

Like autumn leaves his sense fell from him
An empty glass of himself shattered somewhere within
His thoughts like a hundred moths
Trapped in a lampshade
Somewhere within
Their wings banging and burning
On through endless night
Forever awake he lies shaking and starving
Praying for someone to turn off the light

Born of a broken man, never a broken man
Born of a broken man, but not a broken man
Born of a broken man, never a broken man
Born of a broken man, but not a broken man

My fear is hunting me down
Capturing my memories
The frontier of laos
They try to escape across the street where
Jesus stripped bare
And raped the spirit he was supposed to nurture
In the name of my
In the name of my

YEAAAH!

Born of a broken man, but not a broken man
Born of a broken man, never a broken man
Born of a broken man, never a broken man
Born of a broken man, but not a broken man

Mayor Dave Bing and select Detroit City Council members…

Furthermore the people of Detroit do not forget. We understand where the pressure comes from. You simply have been able to allow the message and suppression from the State of Michigan to be targeted at the people.

However it is your CHOICE that enables the agenda to continue forward. You have abdicated responsibility for the well-being of the people. You have VIOLATED your oath of office. You no longer serve the people.

The people must WAKE UP and we have in select cells… it will spread like a virus when the public hears and sees the atrocities that will happen next.

Wake Up by Rage Against The Machine
Lyrics:

Come on, although ya try to discredit

Ya still never edit
The needle, I’ll thread it
Radically poetic
Standin’ with the fury that they had in ‘66
And like E-Double I’m mad
Still knee-deep in the system’s shit
Hoover, he was a body remover
I’ll give ya a dose
But it’ll never come close
To the rage built up inside of me
Fist in the air, in the land of hypocrisy

Movements come and movements go
Leaders speak, movements cease
When their heads are flown
'Cause all these punks
Got bullets in their heads
Departments of police, the judges, the feds
Networks at work, keepin’ people calm
You know they went after King
When he spoke out on Vietnam
He turned the power to the have-nots
And then came the shot

Yeah!
Yeah, back in this…
Wit’ poetry, my mind I flex
Flip like Wilson, vocals never lackin’ dat finesse
Whadda I got to, whadda I got to do to wake ya up
To shake ya up, to break the structure up
'Cause blood still flows in the gutter
I’m like takin’ photos
Mad boy kicks open the shutter
Set the groove
Then stick and move like I was Cassius
Rep the stutter step
Then bomb a left upon the fascists
Yea, the several federal men
Who pulled schemes on the dream
And put it to an end
Ya better beware
Of retribution with mind war
20/20 visions and murals with metaphors
Networks at work, keepin’ people calm
Ya know they murdered X
And tried to blame it on Islam
He turned the power to the have-nots
And then came the shot

Uggh!
What was the price on his head?
What was the price on his head!

I think I heard a shot
I think I heard a shot
I think I heard a shot
I think I heard a shot
I think I heard a shot
I think I heard, I think I heard a shot

'He may be a real contender for this position should he
abandon his supposed obedience to white liberal doctrine
of non-violence…and embrace black nationalism’
'Through counter-intelligence it should be possible to
pinpoint potential trouble-makers…And neutralize them,
neutralize them, neutralize them’

Wake up! Wake up! Wake up! Wake up!
Wake up! Wake up! Wake up! Wake up!

How long? Not long, cause what you reap is what you sow

Mayor Bing and select Detroit City Council Members…

It is understood that you serve not the PEOPLE OF DETROIT. You serve a different master. Thus this song by Rage Against The Machine is a fitting tribute to your sellout into the takeover by the State of Michigan today.

Rage Against The Machine - Killing In The Name
Lyrics:

Killing in the name of!
Some of those that work forces, are the same that burn crosses
Some of those that work forces, are the same that burn crosses
Some of those that work forces, are the same that burn crosses
Some of those that work forces, are the same that burn crosses
Huh!

Killing in the name of!
Killing in the name of

And now you do what they told ya
And now you do what they told ya
And now you do what they told ya
And now you do what they told ya
And now you do what they told ya
And now you do what they told ya
And now you do what they told ya
And now you do what they told ya
And now you do what they told ya
And now you do what they told ya
And now you do what they told ya
But now you do what they told ya
Well now you do what they told ya

Those who died are justified, for wearing the badge, they’re the chosen whites
You justify those that died by wearing the badge, they’re the chosen whites
Those who died are justified, for wearing the badge, they’re the chosen whites
You justify those that died by wearing the badge, they’re the chosen whites

Some of those that work forces, are the same that burn crosses
Some of those that work forces, are the same that burn crosses
Some of those that work forces, are the same that burn crosses
Some of those that work forces, are the same that burn crosses
Uggh!

Killing in the name of!
Killing in the name of

And now you do what they told ya
And now you do what they told ya
And now you do what they told ya
And now you do what they told ya
And now you do what they told ya, now you’re under control (7 times)
And now you do what they told ya, now you’re under control
And now you do what they told ya, now you’re under control
And now you do what they told ya, now you’re under control
And now you do what they told ya, now you’re under control
And now you do what they told ya, now you’re under control
And now you do what they told ya, now you’re under control
And now you do what they told ya!

Those who died are justified, for wearing the badge, they’re the chosen whites
You justify those that died by wearing the badge, they’re the chosen whites
Those who died are justified, for wearing the badge, they’re the chosen whites
You justify those that died by wearing the badge, they’re the chosen whites
Come on!

Yeah! Come on!
F* you, I won’t do what you tell me

TODAY! Let your voice be heard! #HantzOff #LandJustice #CommunityLandTrust

Community Trust: Our Communities Are Up to Us!

LEAP does not speak for us. Neither does the Detroit Works Project.

We, the Community Trust, are a coalition of organizations that have done sustained, substantial work on the east side of Detroit for many decades.

We have established youth programs, worked on anti violence efforts, organized business initiatives, encouraged economic innovation, established gardens, reclaimed homes, planted trees, developed new models of education, and supported artistic and creative activities.

Like all Detroiters, we have contributed to the support of public lands, and we have all suffered from their neglect.

We Believe

Public lands are a public trust.

Public land should be used to further community health, welfare, beauty, independence, and interconnection.

Community Land Trusts are the best path for us to take for the future development of our city.

What We Want

The City Council should actively pursue policies, projects, and programs that support community based initiatives that foster self- sufficiency, community ties, and sustainable ways of living.

The City Council should develop a specific process for Community Based Agreements for all development projects effecting neighborhoods.

The City Council should explore Community Land Trusts as a way to protect public lands.

The Council should reject the proposed deal with Hantz Farms/Woodlands. The sale of public land to a single individual violates the public trust.

The Council should understand Our Community is more than LEAP.

The Lower East Side Action Plan (LEAP) does not speak for us.

They have no right to claim they speak for the whole community.

Their so-called community agreement is illegitimate. It is not a Community Benefit Agreement. It was not publicly negotiated through a broadly based, inclusive process. It is the product of discussion between Hantz Farms/Woodlands and LEAP leadership.

Call to action: Public hearings on land use by Gregg Newsom

*House Bill 6004 and Senate Bill 1358- Would expand a separate and statewide school district (the EAA) overseen by a governor-appointed chancellor and functioning outside the authority of the State Board of Education or state school superintendent. These schools are exempt from the same laws and quality measures of community-governed public schools. The EAA can seize unused school buildings (built and financed by local taxpayers) and force sale or lease to charter, non-public or EAA schools.

*House Bill 5923- Creates several new forms of charter and online schools with no limit on the number. Bundled with HB 6004/SB1358, many of these schools could be created by the EAA. Public schools are not allowed to create these new schools unless they charter them. Selective enrollment/dis-enrollment policies will likely lead to greater segregation in our public schools. This bill creates new schools without changing the overall funding available, further diluting resources for community-governed public schools.

*Senate Bill 620- Known as the ‘Parent Trigger’ bill, this would allow the lowest achieving 5% of schools to be converted to a charter school while allowing parents or teachers to petition for the desired reform model. This bill will not directly affect our district, but disenfranchises voters, ends their local control, and unconstitutionally hands taxpayer-owned property over to for-profit companies. Characterized as parent-empowerment, this bill does little to develop deep, community-wide parent engagement and organization.
